PIA plans PK8962 Lahore-Melbourne and PK8972 Melbourne-Lahore rescue flights
Pakistan's national career presents a rare sight in the Australian skies as the Pakistani government takes its citizens home. PIA will operate a flight from Melbourne to Lahore and from Lahore to Melbourne this week to help hundreds of Pakistanis return home from Australia. The country has suspended all international commercial flights since mid-March. The ban, which will now run until at least April 30 - Many residents of the country have struggled to find a way to return home and have made official repatriation flights a necessity.
The PIA Boeing 777-200LR will first fly from Lahore to Melbourne on Friday, April 24. PK8962 will leave Pakistan at 5 pm local time and reach Melbourne at 12.30 am the next day. Giving the crew time to rest before the return leg, Melbourne-Lahore, PK8972, will depart at 1 pm on April 26, 13 hours after the same wheel at 9 pm on the same day, the second highest in Pakistan. Emails sent to the High Commission should include the name, passport number, mobile phone number and current address of all passengers wishing to return home. Passengers offering a seat on a return flight must complete a passenger health declaration form before departure. Pakistan will ban regular scheduled international flights until at least May 25, 2020. Domestic flights within Pakistan will also be suspended till the same date.
